I stayed in an attractive self-catering apartment at Playa del Inglés at the southern, drier and warmer end of the island, close by the Dunas de Maspalomas. The weather here is excellent all year round, with temperatures usually in the range 15-25º C. I travelled around the island using local buses, which are clean, quite frequent and inexpensive.

Puerto de Mogán, on the southwest coast. This is a pretty, largely modern, village where there has been a generally successful attempt to blend traditional building styles into a modern setting around a sheltered harbour and marina. There are many restaurants and cafés around the marina edge and I enjoyed lunch in one of these. |

The Dunas de Maspalomas, spectacular sand dunes which form part of a protected nature reserve, together with the Charco de Maspalomas (a freshwater lagoon behind the beach). The dunes can reach heights of 10m and are spread over an area of 328 hectares. |
