Strasbourg - December 1999

A short winter break to do some pre-Christmas shopping and to visit the European Parliament.

The magnificent cathedral, flanked by traditional Alsacienne timbered buildings. The last time I visited Strasbourg the cathedral was covered in scaffolding and although work continues the facade, at least, is complete.

The new building of the European Parliament, opened last year - it replaces another chamber located close by.

Swans on the river - there are a number of offshoots of the Rhine here, some picturesque like this, some used to house the Port - large barges and other vessels are much used for both freight and passenger traffic.
